At Northside Dental, our mission is to help patients maintain great oral health and avoid more complex and costly dental treatments down the road. Here are some tips to help you avoid the need for a root canal and keep your teeth healthy and strong for many years to come!
What Is Root Canal Therapy?
When a tooth is severely damaged or decayed, the pulp inside the tooth becomes diseased. To prevent the tooth from dying, root canal therapy removes the damaged pulp, disinfects the canals, and seals the tooth. Root canal treatment is a revolutionary, tooth-saving treatment. It prevents the need for more expensive tooth replacement options. However, if you can maintain healthy teeth and avoid the need for a root canal, we recommend it!
Caring for Your Smile at Home
To prevent the need for a root canal and other dental treatments, great dental hygiene is the first line of defense! What should you do?
- Brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes each time
- Floss between your teeth at least once a day
- Use fluoridated toothpaste and mouthwash
- Eat a lot of fruits and veggies
- Limit your intake of food that’s high in sugar and carbohydrates
- Rinse your mouth with water or brush your teeth after eating
Biannual Dental Visits
In addition to maintaining a stellar oral hygiene regimen, we also recommend visiting Northside Dental twice a year for professional cleanings and exams. Professional dental cleanings remove cavity-causing bacteria and plaque to keep your teeth healthy year-round. Biannual dental checkups give Dr. Metwally and our team a chance to examine your teeth and gums and catch any dental issues while they’re still small and easy to correct. Without regular visits, your teeth could become subject to extreme decay and cause the need for a root canal.
