What Types of Dentures Are There?

Dentures are removable false teeth that make your smile look complete. They are often an excellent solution for people that have several missing teeth or have no teeth at all. Generally speaking, there are two types of dentures: full and partial.

Full Dentures

You may need full dentures if you have lost most of your teeth or need to get a lot of teeth removed. Full dentures replace an entire arch of teeth. They can be used for all of your top teeth, bottom teeth, or both. Full dentures are typically made from porcelain and held together by metal or acrylic. Our dentures have a suction seal to ensure that they stay in place while in use. Full dentures are also relatively easy to clean. You will want to clean your dentures to remove stains and discoloration regularly.

Partial Dentures

Partial dentures are more appropriate for people that haven’t lost all of their teeth. You are a good candidate if you have several teeth missing in a row. Partial dentures are secured with a wire clasp that hooks on to other natural teeth. It creates a “bridge” between teeth and fills the gap with natural-looking teeth. They can be used on the upper and lower teeth. If cleaning is a concern for you, you should know that partial dentures are easy to clean. Partial dentures are easy to remove, which makes it convenient for cleaning.

Dentures or Dental Implants?

Compared to dental implants, dentures are more affordable. You don’t need surgery to get custom-made dentures, unlike with getting dental implants. However, dentures aren’t permanently inserted into your jaw, which could be a pro or con for you.
